June 21, 2017

Its not every day that youll see a massive horde of skaters dominating the streets of Manila. But like a scene straight out of a movie, countless skateboarders from all over the Philippines convene to make the impossible possible as they joined in the biggest skateboarding parade in celebration of this years Go Skateboarding Day (GSD).

Staged by DC Shoes Philippines, the event which was held last June 21 sought to make history as it attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the largest skateboarding parade. And once again, DC did not fail to disappoint as it mounted a larger than life event that “Defy Convention”. DC is committed to leveling up the skate scene and to defying the convention.

The event kicked off at the Quirino Grand Stand, Rizal Park, Manila, where participants registered. By 12:00pm, the parade started; wielding throngs of skaters who are all pumped up to chart the streets between the Quirino Grand Stand all the way to the Circuit Makati grounds.

The fun and excitement did not end with the parade but the action kept going at the Mountain Dew Skate Park in Circuit Makati for DCs Core Skateboarding Competition. Proving to be the most unforgettable Go Skateboarding Day event in local skateboarding history, DC Pro Riders including Cyril Jackson, Chase Webb, and Alex Lawton even flew in to Manila to celebrate and share a skate demo and a free skate session with Filipino skaters.

The first DC Invitational Competition was also held at Mountain Dew Skatepark. Judged based on technicality, consistency, and creativity, each participant performed one-minute runs. By the end of the qualifying round, only eight participants advanced to the final round where they competed under the same criteria. The three skaters with the highest scores were named champions of the DCs first-ever Invitational Competition.

Hosted by Bea Benedicto and veteran skate host Norwin Caluya, the event featured a live band performance. DC awarded P50,000 worth of cash to the winners of the DC Invitational category and P100,000 worth of DC products and gift certificates to the other contest winners.
