‘Hole-in-one’– that’s how a golf tournament-cum-fundraising event turned out, as the two-day activity organized by Primer Group of Companies’ Primer International Management Limited (PIML) managed to churn out a total of $3,163.70, which can majorly cover costs for Primer Group and Freewaters’ water project in remote villages in the Philippines this year.

Supported by Stance golf socks distributor, Uncommon Swing, and in partnership with Freewaters and Stance, the PIML 2019 Golf Tournament held on January 25 to 26, 2019 featured fun-filled golf events attended by participants from the Philippines, Singapore, United States, United Kingdom, China, and Thailand, including the participation of basketball phenomenon Kiefer Ravena, who is soon-to-be the ambassador of notable Primer Group brands, including Mitchell & Ness. With 33 golfers from all over the world, this year saw the largest number of participants in the golf event.

On its fifth year, the tournament was decided to be held for a bigger purpose: to raise funds for the next water project in the Philippines, in partnership withFreewaters, that aims to reach remote villages and empower indigenous communities through access to clean and potable water.

The event’s first day had lots of extraordinary surprises! Golfers showed off their golfing stance at the ‘Putt in Your Stance‘, where participants putt through the greens of the Eagle Ridge Golf & Country Club course only with their Stancesocks on. Participants showed off their driving accuracy as they tee off while wearing a Mitchell & Ness Swingman Jersey. Putting while carrying a huge JanSport backpack and targeting a Briggs & Riley luggage on a par 3 hole added thrill and fun. It was definitely a good idea to involve Primer brands Stance, Mitchell & NessJanSport, and Briggs & Riley in the golf event for the first time.

Although the first day was all about fun, all competitors put their game face on and emerged victorious in their own categories. First day awardees are:

  • Tom Pen for “Carry your JanSport” event
  • Glenn Bennington, Zandro Fabron, and Yap Sze Kam hailed as “Strongest Swingmen” (Top three nearest to pin)
  • Kiefer Ravena for “Briggs & Riley Carry on Target” and overall runner up
  • Zandro Fabron as overall champion

The heat at the tournament turned up much higher in Ayala Greenfield Golf & Leisure Club on the second day as two teams- Team Stance and Team Freewaters– went up against each other in a game of golf. Both teams were at par with each other in terms of focus, dedication, and effort poured into the game. After a full day of swinging from hole to hole, Team Freewaters  with members Mark Chim, Wilson Dy, Tom Pen, Billy Billano, John Ng, Cape Capener, Mark Rosca, Peter Chua, Glenn Bennington, Eddie Cheang, Anthony Yap, Koh Yang Kee, Danny Wan, and Eddie Sim, emerged victorious.

“Being a part of this golf tournament gave us a different feeling of  satisfaction and fulfillment. It does not only built stronger ties and camaraderie with our colleagues and clients and enhanced our skills. But more importantly, we became conduits toward a noble cause to support communities through water system projects” says, Mark Chim, Managing Director of PIML.

Indeed, the event was a success not only because it has been an event of firsts, but also because of its purpose of giving and reaching out to people in need.

Primer Group and Freewaters have been in partnership since 2016, and had launched several partner communities: water filters for Dipontian, Casiguran, Aurora Province, and a sustainable water system for Barangay Bucana, El Nido, Palawan. The partnership aims to continue and expand their advocacy to reach and empower more communities, and provide access to clean water, in response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal # 6, which is Clean Water and Sanitation.
