Employee Volunteer Group recognized for efforts to clean Manila Bay

December 4, 2018

Primer Group of Companies Employee Volunteer Group receives recognition from Stance International for being able to successfully overcome and fulfill Stance’s challenge to clean up a public space in celebration of this year’s World Clean Up Day.

Over 30 Primer employees joined forces with Pasay’s local government unit to clean up the coastal area near Gloria Maris at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City last September 8, 2018.

The team filled almost two dump trucks worth of trash, debris and flotsam, which swamped the area after a series of heavy rains and typhoons.

Although the amount of trash gathered was not a pretty sight to behold, the level of fulfillment the volunteers had after cleaning the coastal area was beyond expected. Moreover, the activity drove employee-volunteers to drive awareness of the country’s environmental situation and to act further and serve as catalysts in making the planet a better place to live in.

“Although the activity was exhausting, nothing can match the fulfillment we have right now. I also realized that we need to be more disciplined when it comes to disposing of our waste,” says Employee Volunteer Group President Marisel Sy.

Stance and Parkland, both supporters of Employee Volunteer Group to achieve their objective, expressed their pleasure as well.

“We hope STANCE’s simple gesture will have a compounding effect in our efforts to clean up the environment. We want to prove that through corporate social responsibility,  volunteerism and community engagement we can make this a sustainable platform,” – Jundel Llagas, Stance

“We are very fulfilled that we were able to support a project like this. With the growing issue of waste management in the Philippines, we need to take matters into our own hands. Let’s start to reconsider the way we live and make the world a better place.”- Troy Mapoy, Parkland

Some also posted about the activity on social media.

The activity formed part of one of Primer Group of Companies Corporate Social Responsibility pillars, which is Environmental Conservation.

For their efforts, the group received $500, which will be used to sustain further volunteer activities, other than a lunch treat for Primer employees.
